Guanacaste is less tropical, humid and lush than the rest of the country. Its plains and dry forests sometimes remind African savanna landscapes. Inland you can see the savanna, local cowboys on their horses while driving their flocks, which are authentic figures of popular culture of this destination. From the hotel, you can do several excursionsthat you can not lose, like the visit of the National Park Rincon de la Vieja, The Safari Park or the capital of Guanacaste: Liberia.
The Riu Palace Costa Rica opened in December of 2012 and is one of our most popular resorts in the area. It is located next door to the Riu Guanacaste and has exchange privileges (however, guests of the Riu Guanacaste can’t go to the Palace). The Riu Palace is located on a nice beach with a great pool area. Like all Rius, the Palace can be crowded, has quirky dinner reservations system, and a social high energy atmosphere.
The Riu Palace rooms are very nice! All of the Junior Suites have modern décor with bold colors, 24 hour room service, and fully stocked minibar. The Riu serves premium brand liquor and has four a la carte restaurants and a buffet.
Overall, The Riu Palace is a very nice resort. I love the contemporary décor, but it doesn’t really fit the surrounding lush jungle environment. Although the Westin is nicer, most travelers to Costa Rica spend a lot of time exploring the region and less at the resort. If there is a significant price difference, many active people choose the Riu to save the money.
